US Endoscopy announces acquisition of Bracco Diagnostics Inc. Gastroenterology Business Unit

Mentor, Ohio — December 17, 2015 — US Endoscopy, a world leader in endoscopy device design and manufacturing, is proud to announce the acquisition of the Gastroenterology Business Unit (GBU) of Bracco Diagnostics Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Bracco Imaging S.p.A., a global leading company in the diagnostic imaging business. The Bracco GBU portfolio primarily consists of CO2 insufflation systems, devices for biopsy collection and various accessories that improve the workflow and patient experience during an endoscopy procedure.

The Bracco GBU is recognized as a pioneer and leader in providing CO2 insufflation systems - insufflation of the lumen is required for visualization during endoscopy procedures. The proprietary offerings include the CO2EFFICIENT® Insufflator and the CO2MPACT Endoscopic Insufflator®. These systems eliminate the need for cumbersome attachments and specialized CO2 valves. The CO2EFFICIENT Insufflator includes the proprietary Managed Flow feature, an intelligent software program that senses when CO2 is not required by the clinician and automatically reduces the flow. The portfolio also includes the E-Z-EM Suction Polyp Trap™, QuickCatch™ In-Line Suction Polyp Trap, and E-Z-Guard™ Bite Blocks.

“US Endoscopy is broadening its portfolio offering related to CO2 insufflation and biopsy collection,” says Tony Siracusa, Vice President and General Manager of US Endoscopy. “The addition of CO2 insufflation systems allows US Endoscopy to better serve our Customers in this growing clinical area. We continue to see the use of CO2 insufflation versus standard room air during endoscopy procedures grow due to its clinical benefits of reduced patient discomfort post procedure. We are thrilled to now be able to offer our Customers a CO2 solution through US Endoscopy.”

“This transaction is consistent with Bracco’s patient-centric approach and its strategy to develop and deliver contrast media products and innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of physicians and other professionals involved with diagnostic imaging. In this framework, Bracco has elected to focus on its core business and transfer its Gastroenterology products to a bigger player in that market space,” states Vittorio Puppo, Chief Executive Officer and President of Bracco Diagnostics Inc.
